Collection: University of Delaware Special Collections Online Exhibitions and Finding Aids

Description: The exhibition "An American Feast: Food, Dining, and Entertaining in the United States from Simmons to Rombauer," focuses on American culture and attitudes toward food and dining from the 1796 publication of the first American cookbook and the 1931 publication of Irma Rombauer's kitchen icon, The Joy of Cooking. The exhibition examines the changing patterns of American food preparation and service, the impact of technology, the origins and influence of the home economics movement, the evolution and democratization of the dining room, American attitudes toward drink, the etiquette of dining, and the popularity of commercial dining establishments. This exhibition was on display in the Special Collections Gallery from June 21-September 30, 1994.
