Description: "Since 1934, there has been an organization dedicated to representing the professional men and women of the Omaha Police Department who protect and serve Omaha. Over the years, although the names may have changed, the commitment to excellence in service has remained the same. Today, that organization is known as the Omaha Police Officers Association. The Omaha POA’s goal is to professionally represent the over 900 sworn peace officers that comprise the Omaha Police Department. In order to achieve this goal, the OPOA strives to promote a high level of commitment to public safety and professionalism within the ranks of the OPD via an emphasis on education, legal support, community outreach and trust building. So that the citizens of Omaha may enjoy an exceptional level of police protection by attracting and retaining the best and brightest police officers, balanced with a focus on the responsible use of tax dollars, the OPOA strives to ensure that the wages of OPD officers are competitive to those being paid to officers in similar cities facing similar crime and danger. This means that the OPOA is dedicated to ensuring that OPD officers salaries do not slip below, or rise above, the average of that paid to officers in similar cities. This approach is fair to hard working officers and taxpayers alike."--taken from website 2024.03.04

Description: "In the fall of 1943, a group of about 50 Troopers gathered and discussed the idea of a union to help improve working conditions in the New York State Police. Looking for guidance from other established police unions, the group called upon the president of the Port Authority PBA to assist. The Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers, Inc. was formed, and 80 percent of all Troopers became members within a month. A charter of incorporation was issued in early 1944. Throughout the years the State Troopers PBA has changed and conformed to meet the needs of its members, but the overall mission has remained the same: to work for the betterment of our members. Today, the State Troopers PBA serves approximately 5,900 retired and active, uniformed members of the New York State Police from the rank of Trooper through the rank of Major. The State Troopers PBA is just as active today as when it was first incorporated. Along the way, there have been many momentous victories. The passage of the historic Taylor Law in 1967 strengthened the role of the State Troopers PBA, as it became recognized as the official bargaining unit of Troopers involving terms and conditions of employment, a role it continues to serve today. In the mid-1990s, the passage of legislation affording Troopers binding arbitration for monetary compensation improved the bargaining arena immensely."--taken from website 2024.03.25

The organization was established to promote fellowship among its members, enhance law enforcement's image, and improve the quality of life of the Hispanic community. To achieve these goals, HALEA advances the educational, patriotic, social, cultural, and moral welfare of its members and local communities. Partnering with other community organizations to co-promote a series of community events, HALEA places its law enforcement members front and center, providing Hispanic youths with the opportunity to develop personal relationships with positive role models. Our members are experienced professionals, leaders in their own fields, that grew up in these communities, and know the importance of giving back to our Hispanic youth. As a strictly voluntary organization, HALEA does not pay any Executive Board Officer. We remain active within the Hispanic Communities of Hudson County and those throughout the State, by partnering with similarly-minded civic organizations and supporting an active calendar of community events."--taken from website 2024.03.18

Description: " About Us The Gay Officers Action League (GOAL), is a first-of-its-kind organization that was formed in 1982 to address the needs, issues, and concerns of gay and lesbian law enforcement personnel and has since expanded to a nonprofit tax-exempt civil rights organization. GOAL was founded by Charles Henry "Charlie" Cochrane, Jr. (August 5, 1943–May 5, 2008) a sergeant of the New York City Police Department, who after delivering a public testimony on anti-gay discrimination legislation pending before the New York City Council, became the first openly gay officer of the NYPD. Since its founding as a fraternal organization, GOAL has advocated for the rights of its members and has assisted them on matters of discrimination, harassment, and disparate treatment in the workplace. GOAL furthers its mission by providing training at the NY Police Academy and Jersey City Police Department, among others. Our organization provides an arena for members to discuss their needs and concerns in a comfortable atmosphere without fear of job-related reprisals. We provide a safe environment for a group of people who have been and continue to be, victims of harassment and discrimination in the workplace. We also serve as a bridge between the law enforcement community and The LGBTQ Community at large."--taken from website 2024.03.25
