Description: "The City of Minneapolis was incorporated in 1867 and had a population of about 5,000. Today 800 plus police officers serve the 58 square mile city, with a population of 368,000. By 1998 calls for police service in the city topped 414,000. As we embark on the 21st Century, the police officers of the city will continue our 132-year history of professional policing. Throughout the history of the city, police officers have served their community and their country. During World War II, 117 Minneapolis police officers served in our country’s military forces. The Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis was founded in 1916. The Federation was incorporated in 1965 to represent the police officers of the Minneapolis Police Department and the Minneapolis Park Police. In 1972 the first legal contracts were made between the Federation and the city. The Federation represents 800 plus police officers."--taken from website 2024.03.04
