Description: Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. The ideals of sincerity, service, and friendship provide the foundation for AOII. As one of our founders Stella George Stern Perry explained, "We cared so profoundly for one another that we unconsciously desired a society based upon original feeling... We felt that as love never faileth, a future on that foundation was assured." With over 168,000 initiated members from 206 collegiate chapters, the values on which AOII was founded help lead us in the decisions we make and the behaviors we exhibit in our daily lives. We are inspired to promote the values of simplicity, integrity, tolerance, generosity, personal dignity, and love. Our lives are to be living symbols of these values that we hold in common. They enable us to go with character and confidence into the world around us, with assurance in knowing AOII is ours, offering friendships and opportunities throughout our lifetime.

Description: Sigma Alpha Lambda is a National Leadership and Honors Organization dedicated to developing the individual and serving our campus and community. The mission of Sigma Alpha Lambda is to recognize members for academic achievement, to engage members in service, and to develop members for leadership. Service is the foundation of our leadership development model as well as the leadership of the organization itself. Through service, individuals look outside themselves and lives are changed, not only for the one being served but even more so for the one serving. As a result of this process, the individual learns more about who they really are and what they value. Our Statement of Purpose and organization’s Shared Values provide the foundation upon which the organization carries out its mission.

Description: Fraternities and sororities provide an enriching student experience that helps individuals to grow and develop as young men and women who have leadership and social skills, who prioritize their academics and service to community. Membership in a fraternity or sorority is life-long and provides connections long after graduation. Membership experiences focus around the following pillars of fraternity/sorority life: Friendship: The Greek Community allows for a home-away-from-home environment you can proudly come back to after graduation. Being part of the Greek Community is a chance to be a part of something greater than yourself. You will also gain lifelong friendships, memories, and a strong sense of belonging. Leadership: The Greek Community offers endless opportunities for developing leadership skills in its members. Members hold positions within their chapter, ranging from chapter president to committee chair. Today, it takes more than a college degree to be successful. Employers want college graduates who have demonstrated leadership abilities and aren’t afraid to get involved. The Greek Community is able to provide its members with these opportunities. Philanthropy and Service: Greeks take pride in community service and philanthropy. Each chapter has a foundation or charity they sponsor through philanthropic events. Sororities and fraternities sponsor a multitude of activities each year to impact the local community and raise money. Scholarship: Fraternities and sororities strive for high scholarship and developing academic excellence among their chapter members. Fraternities and sororities offer time management, study skills, and other programming to help members be successful in the classroom. The Greek Community traditionally maintains a higher G.P.A. than the all-University average. Greek Life is a part of the Student Involvement and Leadership Department.

We have laid the foundation for a community bank, built a mile and a half water system, and have built stoves. During our week long brigades we run a 3 day clinic that provides critical health care that is of no cost to people living in rural villages. We also participate in a project centered around public health to vastly improve the longevity and health of the surrounding communities. Global Brigades promotes the idea of self-sustainability. Description: On May 13, 2014, former Governor Pat McCrory signed the executive order at East Carolina University, one of six University of North Carolina campuses participating in the pilot program with an emphasis on prevention and treatment. ECU was joined by UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina A&T, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington and UNC-Greensboro in the program. The Governor’s Substance Abuse and Underage Drinking Prevention and Treatment Task Force will build on statewide prevention, treatment and enforcement initiatives implemented by the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission, Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the UNC system. ECU has implemented education, prevention, and intervention initiatives that include educating students during orientation; having required electronic education modules; offering programming for specific groups like Greek life and student athletes; and providing assessment, counseling, and referral resources. The next important step for our campus and others across the state is to build recovery initiatives to help students stop the cycle of addiction. The CRC allows ECU to create a support network of services to assist students along their developmental and educational journey.

Description: The Cooperative Baptist Student Fellowship at ECU creates a sense of belonging to students seeking community by developing faith and love in Christ through partnership with local Baptist churches. We are the Cooperative Baptist Student Fellowship at East Carolina University, a Baptist ministry in partnership with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of NC and local Baptist churches. We seek to be more than just another campus ministry at East Carolina. When you come to a CBSF Bible Study, go on a retreat, or serve the community with us, you’re a part of a group where you can be yourself (no matter what) and find who God wants you to be.
