The South Carolina Department of Archives and History is an independent state agency whose mission is to preserve and promote the documentary and cultural heritage of the Palmetto State. As websites created by state agencies are public records, preserving them is also a part of that mission. State agencies utilize websites as their primary means of presenting and disseminating information to the public.

Description: The Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem, through volunteers meant to advocate of behalf of a child's best interest, evaluates the well-being and needs of children to make recommendations to the court on the best course of action for a child's future. The Guardian ad Litem program was created in 1984 and was administered by the Office of the Governor. The division was transferred to the Dept. of Administration by the South Carolina Restructuring Act of 2014 (Act 121). The division was then transferred to the Dept. of Children’s Advocacy in 2018 (Act 160). The Guardian ad Litem website is captured using the Archive-It service quarterly.
