Description:
Latin American Election Statistics: A Guide to Sources is a website created by Karen Lindvall-Larson (Retired Latin American Studies Librarian at the University of California San Diego) between 1998 and 2000. It includes pages providing chronologies of post-independence municipal, state, and federal elections (with specific bibliographic citations to aid in further research – including access to election results and other statistical material) for eleven Latin American countries: Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru. Election results and statistics are generally not included on the website; citations point to where to find such information. In addition, the website includes a general glossary for election terminology/key concepts related to elections throughout Latin America and acronyms for political parties and related organizations, such as labor unions and electoral commissions, and a complete bibliography of sources for electoral information on each specific country. The project and content therein draws on UC San Diego Library’s extensive collection on Latin American elections.
