Description: Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) describes itself as a non-profit organization in South Los Angeles that envisions a society where economic benefits and opportunities are equitably distributed and where workers and tenants have rights and decision-making power. This requires a change in public and corporate policies so that they provide a concrete economic benefit for families. Since its founding in 1996, SAJE has worked to create models of a replicable and sustainable economic democracy, and to build economic power for working-class families in Los Angeles. The majority of its members are people of color and approximately 92 percent are Latin@. While focused on the neighborhoods of South Los Angeles, SAJE works in multiple coalitions to move broader policies that affect not only the neighborhoods within South Los Angeles, but have an impact at city and county levels.
