More than 10,000 children are currently reported, but about 700 will be discounted once the voluntary placements are removed from the publicly-reported numbers. Description: There were many stories told in the classroom throughout the term and others shared in written assignments. Reclamation of culture became a central theme of our class discussions as students shared openly about their personal experiences. Some Indigenous students shared stories as second and third generation residential school survivors. Others talked of their experiences with the child welfare system including the devastation of being removed from their families during the 60s scoop.

Description: MITT has joined all Manitoba universities, colleges and The School Board Association in signing the Indigenous Education Blueprint, at a ceremony held at Migizii Agamik (Bald Eagle Lodge) at the University of Manitoba. This is the second key commitment to Indigenous education that MITT has signed in the last year. On the national level, we also recently signed the Indigenous Education Protocol, put forward by Colleges and Institutes Canada.
