Description: The City of Winnipeg is embarking on an ambitious plan to enhance food security and rally the production of locally grown food during the pandemic. In collaboration with Direct Farm Manitoba, a member-owned cooperative of direct marketing farmers and farmers’ markets, the city hopes for a bumper crop of nutritious food made available to residents. A side effect of the plan could be a bumper crop of happiness, as residents head outdoors to grow food in their yards.

Description: The insult to the injury suffered by restaurants forced to close during the pandemic was delivered by a company named Foodora. A Berlin-based online ordering and delivery app, Foodora announced last week that it was ceasing operations in Canada. That wasn't surprising; Foodora has been a colossal failure in most of the countries in which it has operated. What was a bit alarming was that the company chose to declare bankruptcy when it closed, owing restaurants across Canada nearly $5 million.
