Description: The goal of the American University Arts Council is to open the doors of Student Government resources to arts groups on campus. This spans from music to drama and even writing. The job of the Council, led by the Chair, is to use the resources of Student Government to elevate the profile of the arts on the campus of American University. This will be done through cooperation of all arts groups on campus to achieve a common goal for the arts at AU. The Arts Council Chair works under the guise of the President of the Student Government to help develop policies through the Student Government that will work to achieve the goal of elevating the arts. The Chair is also responsible for planning an Arts Week in the Spring Semester.

It was founded in its most recent form in 2002, and is the oldest continually-active club at American University. The Debate Society is committed to improving the quantity and quality of rational, constructive discourse on the university’s campus, while also providing the opportunity for AU students to compete inter-collegiately in the American Parliamentary Debate Association. It achieves this mission by hosting on-campus debates, open to the student body, and by sending students to compete at tournaments throughout the nation. The AUDS is a completely student-run body, and is guided by its elected Executive Board.
