Description: The MIT Libraries Program on Information Science website contains information about the Program's research projects such as crowdsourcing, data management, inclusive design, information policy and privacy, and scholarly communications. It includes information about software the Program helped to develop, labs which the program ran, publications, and classes taught. There are also many news and blog posts about the Program's activities and talks by visiting scholars. Micah Altman, PhD, the director for the Program on Information Science, led exploration, research, and study of Information Science relevant to the library space starting in 2012. The Program attempted to solve emerging problems and to amplify the impact that MIT could have on the development of information science, information policy, and scholarly communication through participation in the development of standards, policy, and methods. The program grew to encompass a range of topics from big data, election redistricting, data privacy, and information management to the use of VR & AR in library spaces, rapid fabrication/3D printing, and collections accessibility. MIT Libraries operated the Program on Information Science from 2012 to 2018 when it was superseded by the Center for Research on Equitable and Open Scholarship (CREOS).

Description: The Borderline Mural Project iOS app store website is the page for the app on Apple mobile devices and includes a few screen shots of the app working and system requirements. The Borderline Mural Project covers a 200 foot long wall in the tunnels under the campus of MIT with murals created by MIT students. The tunnel is a commonly used route between MIT Buildings 66 and E17 during bad weather. The projects also created an augmented reality (AR) app that visually enhances these murals through a smartphone screen when holding the phone's rear-facing camera lens in front them. More than twenty-five MIT-affiliated artists added their individual contributions throughout spring 2017, culminating in a single, connected mural in May 2017. New murals and animations are added each semester.

Description: n response to the 2016 United States presidential election results. Undergraduate Caroline Mak (MIT 2018) and others put up posters early Wednesday morning November 9, 2016 on the columns in Lobby 7 as a forum for students to express their thoughts and feelings after the election of Donald Trump as US president. Students, staff, and faculty engaged with the posters by writing and/or reading and reflecting on what was written. Students and Senior Assistant Director, Office of Dean for Undergraduate Education, Chris Peterson took down the posters late in the evening of Friday, November 11, 2016. The posters, which measure between 11.5 and 16 feet long and 3 to 4 feet high, are themed around three ideas: hope, fear, and questions. These 10 posters were transferred to the Department of Distinctive Collections after they were removed from Lobby 7. An additional set of two posters, titled “What’s Next?” were put up on November 11, after the original set were removed. These posters were transferred to Distinctive collections by Caroline Mak on November 16, 2016.
