Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is a comprehensive university in Allendale, Michigan. Established in 1960, Grand Valley serves more than 25,000 students, and offers 126 degrees. Though its main campus is in Allendale, it has additional campuses in Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan, and regional learning centers in Detroit, Muskegon, and Traverse City. The Special Collections & University Archives of Grand Valley State University serves GVSU's students, faculty, staff, and other community members by collecting, preserving, and sharing the university's history and heritage.

Description: The Institutional Review Board (IRB), an entity of the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity, ensures that the basic rights and welfare of research participants are fostered and protected, and that research is conducted ethically and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The IRB supports researchers through its coordinated activities in education, regulatory compliance oversight, and post approval-monitoring. All research involving human subjects performed at GVSU and/or by GVSU students, staff, and/or faculty must be reviewed and authorized by the IRB prior to the beginning of the research. The IRB is comprised of GVSU faculty, staff, and community members, who review proposed research studies involving living persons. The board composition meets the requirements to review human subjects research as established by the federal Office of Human Research Protections.

Description: The Laker Leadership Programs are offered through the Office of Student Life at Grand Valley State University. The First Year Leadership Experience (FYLE) is designed to assist new leaders in creating and enhancing their personal philosophy of leadership while developing basic leadership skills and learning about all the leadership opportunities that the GVSU community has to offer. Their mission is to provide GVSU students with training, education, and experiences which encourage growth as life-long leaders of integrity and social change within their lives, professions, and communities. Workshop activities frequently include study guides, collaborative learning/group activities, homework assistance, test preparation, and study skills such as discovering your preferred learning style, efficient notetaking, time management, and test-taking strategies. Workshops meet from one to two hours per week throughout the entire semester. The workshop times are formally attached to the student's class schedule and there is no additional charge to the student for this support.
