Description: The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing (CASW) is a group of distinguished journalists and scientists formed to improve the quality of science news reaching the general public. The organisation funds programmes to help newspaper, magazine and television producers and editors, universities and corporations present accurate, reliable, and informative news stories on science and medicine to the lay public, and also offers support to students wanting to pursue an career in science reporting. There are pages on careers in science writing (including a guide which can be downloaded), New Horizons in Science, an annual four day conference for journalists about forthcoming scientific developments, and details of grants and awards. The latter includes travelling fellowships for reporters to cover the New Horizons briefings; scholarships for students studying science writing; the Victor Cohen prize for excellence in medical science reporting, and visits by experienced science writers. There are also pages on the CASW's orgins.
