Description: Alanna Kelly on Twitter: "By the time I did my research on #Omicron I tested positive for it. I am fully vaccinated and have #COVID19. It’s surreal to say… 🧵 / I had symptoms for one day, just 24 hours. With no rapid tests in B.C., it took me 24 hours to even get a test, the same amount of time I had symptoms for. I felt ‘normal’ the day I went for my test. / Public health nurses can’t pinpoint when or where I got the virus. Two friends tested positive at the same time as me. We were together two days before my symptoms showed up. All three of us are double vaccinated. / It’s terrifying to see how quickly this variant rips through vaccinated people. I WFH and have minimal contacts. Contact tracing is now an honour system. It took public health three days to contact me. All of my contacts have tested negative. Stay safe, friends."

Description: Adam Stirling on Twitter: "Every death is a tragedy, but after 2 years, what we did in #yyj is *incredible* We saved *thousands* of lives. 227 deaths among 870,000 people. @VanIslandHealth = 261 deaths / million ppl. USA = 2,998 / million. TEN TIMES more. We avoided 90% of fatalities, statistically / The math is so insane it looks like it can’t be real. But it is… We saved almost everybody. Our community became one of the safest on the face of the earth. It might be the most important thing we’ll ever do. I treated it like it will be for me. It was do or die. And we did it / Sorry for yelling about Covid for literally 2 years. Some people say my (perhaps pathological?) focus & determination helped them find their own resolve to keep pushing. If that’s true, it’s the best compliment I’ll ever get. I just didn’t want to bury the people I cared about… / I recorded this 721 days ago… Thank you to everybody who stuck around since then. I’ll never forget it. #yyj"

Not sure if this disjointed approach is also happening in other health authorities. 4/4"

In Victoria - friend was one nurse on entire ward for recent shift. Staff quitting, minimal coverage, “absolute mess, not improving.” / And goes without saying, Victoria nurse friend livid passing the “freedom” “protest” this weekend. / And sure this is anecdotal and I can’t give specifics. Description: Lindsay Brown on Twitter: "This is a call out for staff for Vancouver Island vaccine clinics. It's incredible - so in short, they might have some people in these positions in 10 days? At the fastest? And this was only posted internally? What's going on, @AdrianDix @CDCofBC ? #bcpoli / Meanwhile BC kids' vaccine clinics are closed for a long stretch over the holidays, with #Omicron coming, and showing up strongly in kids in South Africa? And when they're open, in some areas kids are only vaccinated Fri-Sun? / BC booster rollout is so slow I've heard docs & nurses I know wonder if a circulating theory might be true, that @CDCofBC is studying long vax intervals vs case #s, hence the delay. They (& I) are 100% non-conspiratorial generally. But CDC does have history of this sort of study. / I don't even want to contemplate a study that unethical, that frankly criminal. As a friend pointed out, population-wide medical studies cannot cause harm. I bring this up to show the talk CDC is exposing itself to, & how deep HCWs are digging to explain the inexplicable delays."

Description: BC School Covid Tracker on Twitter: "We have just discovered that VIHA has quietly made a change to contact tracing for schools over the break. It is no longer involving schools in contact tracing for schools exposures that happened before the break. The information below is taken directly from the BCCDC webpage. / (https://islandhealth.ca/learn-about-health/covid-19/schools ). Among the issues - transmission IS happening, no children under 12 are fully vaccinated yet, phone calls leave no paper trail. / Due to this we are re-enforcing our request that anyone with a positive school related case contact us directly to self-report. Here are the step: 1. Email the closed school and notify them. / 2. Either cc/bcc or screenshot and send us a copy of the email sent to the school (including address fields). 3. Provide the name of the school, the exposure dates (when the individual was at school and contagious) and any other relevant info. / We will not publish names - your identity will remain anonymous. This change in practice by Island Health is incredibly disappointing! #bced #bcpoli"
