COVID-19: Vancouver Island, BC (Central & North)

Collected by: Vancouver Island University

Archived since: Mar, 2020

Description:

In March 2020 the Canadian Web Archiving Coalition (CWAC) stated: "The deadly flu outbreak of 1918-19 is often called the ‘forgotten pandemic.’ Our responsibility now is to ensure the lessons of COVID-19 are not forgotten. Our collective efforts to capture and preserve the essential online elements of this unprecedented event are critical." (CARL-ABRC). The COVID-19: Vancouver Island, BC (Central & North) Web Archive reflects community experiences and responses to the pandemic in the region served by Vancouver Island University, documenting and supporting diverse aspects of scholarly inquiry, creativity, and community life. The Web Archive is intended to provide a body of information that will support scholarship, creativity, and study. Information rights related to web archiving include considerations of copyright and fair dealing, and of individual and community privacy. The following are among principles and resources that guide web archiving decisions: Ethics of care, for example in VIU Library’s Pledge to our user communities; OCAP® principles, and awareness of relationality and accountability to Indigenous communities, and potential impacts related to web archiving; Good practice and expert advice, emerging and accessed through communities of practice, e.g. the Canadian Web Archiving Coalition (CWAC); and VIU Library, Evolution of Physical Collections: 2017-2021 VIU Library, Special Collections Guidelines (Under review 2020). Web archives are informed by available capture technologies and also by affordances of the content source; not all websites can be successfully crawled or rendered, and quality of archived versions varies. This project is supported by VIU's Special Funding for COVID-19 research projects and carried out in coordination with the University of Victoria’s COVID-19 Collection and the Canadian Web Archiving Coalition. Contact us at research.help@viu.ca with questions or for more information about content included in the Web Archive. [Working description 2021 April 6]

URL: https://pub-sd68.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=10327

Description: Attached, please find a news release and presentation prepared by the Canadian Covid Care Alliance (CCCA), which explains how Ontario’s own COVID-19 data demonstrates that the COVID-19 vaccines and related mandates and passports are ineffective at controlling COVID-19 case growth and eliminating COVID-19 hospitalizations. The data also clearly shows that the COVID-19 pandemic is effectively over.

Title: [Comments on BC's government's COVID-19 briefing]

URL: https://twitter.com/SoniaFurstenau/status/1511452814404321280/

Description: Sonia Furstenau on Twitter: "In what was their final #COVID19 briefing for the foreseeable future our PHO and government have failed to educate British Columbians on the risks of #LongCOVID, of the airborne spread of this virus, and of the benefits of well-fitting & high-quality masks. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC / This is a failure to provide essential information to the public, at a time when this government has transferred all responsibility to individuals to try to keep themselves and others safe from #COVID19 infection. 2/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC / In P.E.I & Quebec mask mandates have been extended until the end of the month in order to manage rising cases. It’s clear that the B.A.2 variant has taken over in BC, and yet we continue to act as though we're somehow going to avoid the impacts we’re seeing elsewhere. 3/ #bcpoli / This government is desperate to maintain its narrative around its management of this pandemic, and is doing so by limiting testing, monitoring, and reporting. They have closed down community monitoring at the beginning of a sixth wave. 4/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC #COVID19 / We've seen data transparency & public guidance be the focus of a responsible public health body, like in Peterborough. It's not an impossible task for a gov't to provide clear guidance to the public on the level of risk they are at. 5/5 #bcpoli #COVID19BC https://peterboroughpublichealth.ca/covid-19-risk-index/"
