Description: We have created this fund as a way to bridge the gap for members of our community that are currently being left behind in the rapidly changing situation we all find ourselves in. One size fits all methods are a good start, but we are not a one size fits all community. Vancouver Island is weathering this storm, but we do not all have the same resources to keep us safe. This fund is a community-based initiative, born out of the belief that no one should be left behind. We are collecting money to redistribute it based on the individuals who apply – this approach will allow us to optimally meet the needs of our diverse community which can’t be adequately characterized by standardized aid programs.

Description: LaFF on Instagram: "Dear Community, Dec 2020 was meant to host LaFF’s 16th Annual Breakfast with Santa FUNdraiser. This year is different. In the past LaFF’s Breakfast with Santa FUNdraiser would have been how hundreds of families would have celebrated together and made special memories. This unique year calls for this unique way of celebrating together – but apart. We still value our committment to the Ladysmith community and are currently supporting more than 350 families with food and clothing donations, care packages, driveway visits and well-being focused zoom sessions. In order to make sure our community has continued support over the holidays and beyond we have created the LaFF 12 days of Cheer - Crate.♥️💚♥️💚.... and we are looking to you for your support by: ♥️Purchasing a crate full of 12 Days of holiday activities, ♥️Sponsoring a crate for another family who needs help this holiday season, ♥️ Sponsoring this FUNdraising innitiative so we can continue to support families into the new year, ♥️encourage others to purchase a crate and / or this initiative. Get ready for the launch of the crates .... they are beautiful and full of LaFF love♥️💚♥️ #ittakescommunity #FUNdraiser"

Description: Today I stood in the Legislature to express my admiration and gratitude for Fatima Da Silva and the Nourish Cowichan Society. When COVID-19 hit, Nourish hit the ground running, working with SD 79 to ensure that the children who had been relying on healthy food at schools were getting that healthy food delivered to their homes. Over 5,000 food hampers have been delivered since March, 800 families are getting food each week, and 200 more are on the wait-list. Child poverty and hunger deserves our attention, and we need to put our efforts to solving it. Fatima, and other volunteers, are not waiting for us. I'm so proud, so amazed and so grateful for my dear friend Fatima, who embodies everything that all of us should strive to be in our lives.
