NGOs in Nepal

Collected by: Cornell University Library

Archived since: Oct, 2018

Description:

Throughout recorded history, Nepal has nestled between the giant cultural formations of India to the south and China/Tibet to the north. With the globalization of modern times, international interests and concerns draw Nepal into contact with more distant corners of the world. There are now a multitude of non-governmental organizations at work in Nepal, many headquartered in the Kathmandu Valley. Some are international NGOs and some are purely Nepali, some are long running and some are startups. All of the websites archived here are NGO self-presentations of their aspirations and their achievements on various fronts—humanitarian, environmental, economic, political, religious, and more.

Title: Community Self Reliance Centre

URL: http://www.csrcnepal.org/

Description: Since its establishment, CSRC, a social development organization, has been working for the cause of, as the name suggests, 'community self-reliance' through empowering processes. In its initial years, CSRC supported local people in remote communities of one district in Nepal. The focus then was primarily on non-formal education, group mobilization, for micro-finance, post-literacy income generations programmes and capacity development of women and other vulnerable groups. Despite the risks involved and the threats received from feudal landlords, CSRC activists with the turn of the new millennium, decided to commit their time and efforts to work with deprived tillers to fight for their basic human rights by ensuring access of land rights. -- From the website, 2019.07.01 Organization founded in 1993
