Description:

Throughout recorded history, Nepal has nestled between the giant cultural formations of India to the south and China/Tibet to the north. With the globalization of modern times, international interests and concerns draw Nepal into contact with more distant corners of the world. There are now a multitude of non-governmental organizations at work in Nepal, many headquartered in the Kathmandu Valley. Some are international NGOs and some are purely Nepali, some are long running and some are startups. All of the websites archived here are NGO self-presentations of their aspirations and their achievements on various fronts—humanitarian, environmental, economic, political, religious, and more.

Title: Bahing Kirat Mulukhim

Description: Organization founded in 2004 Aborigine Indigenous Bahing people are among one of the Kirat tribes. Their traditional homeland spans from the hilly terrains of southern tip of Solukhumbu district and eastern part of Okhaldhunga district. They have their own distinct cultural identity, traditional homeland, traditional rites and customs, social structure, and written and unwritten history. BAHING KIRAT MULUKHIM (BKM) is a representative organization of Bahing community. Title: Lohorung Yakhkhaba Yuyong

Description: Organization founded in 1999 Lohorung Yakhkhaba Yuyong is an autonomous and representative organization of Lohorung community at national level. It has been formally registered with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu under the social Act of Government of Nepal (GoN) in 1999 (2056 BS). The Yuyong has been working for social and economic development as well as for language and culture development of the Lohorung community from its inception. Description: Organization founded in 1999 "NIWF is a Kathmandu based umbrella organization of Indigenous Nationalities specific women's organizations. The multiple roles that Nepalese Indigenous women play contribute to maintain preserve and promote the distinct identity of Indigenous peoples. Their language and cultural skills, traditional knowledge in management of community and resources are distinct. Title: Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra

Description: "Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra began as an eighteen months program for young indigenous Tamang women. It was a response to the urgent need that indigenous children and young women were always denied of basic education. Because of extreme poverty, no access to any development programs, cultural barriers and a notion that girls should not be educated, many children in the rural as well as the outskirts of Kathmandu were and are still denied education. Many children were outside the main education system. The children and the youths because of poverty work to make their living and to support their family. Bikalpa began as an alternative for those children and young women to be able to learn and earn and still be able to fulfilling their dream of learning to read and write."
