Collection: History of Abandoned Towns in California
Description: This site captures Needle's social and economic history. Needles is a small town on the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert. In the late 19th century, Needles was founded as a railroad town for migrants traveling into California with operating gas stations, fast food places, and motels. The 2008 recession prompted this town’s economic downturn leading to the closure of small and large businesses. Not to mention, the advancement of information technology has also reshaped Needles' job market resulting in labor cutbacks and economic push factors. Today, Needles is an abandoned town with its low population and desolate buildings.
