Description:

The collection is comprised of archived captures of websites and social media sites related to the October 1, 2017 mass shooting that occured at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, NV. Websites were identified and selected by the UNLV Special Collections and Archives Division. Websites and social media sites were also selected based on the most frequently shared URLs on Twitter related to the shooting in Las Vegas. The websites in this collection were crawled and captured using Archive-It starting in October 2017. The collection is primarily comprised of articles and news stories from local, national, and international news media outlets.

UNLV December 6, 2023 Memorial Collection

Description:

The UNLV December 6, 2023 Memorial Collection (2023-2024) contains material documenting the response to the deadly shooting on UNLV's Maryland Parkway campus on December 6, 2023. The collection contains items left at spontaneous memorials, such as handwritten notecards, small religious tokens, bracelets, teddy bears, and artificial flowers. Also included in the collection are videos of the UNLV vigil service held on December 13, 2023, archived UNLV websites, and condolence items sent to campus administration. In the days and weeks following the tragic event, two spontaneous memorials were created on the Maryland Parkway campus. The materials and the memorials themselves were eventually gathered by UNLV Special Collections and Archives staff and included in this collection. Additionally, two members of the UNLV community donated their personal photographs and journal entries relating to the day of the shooting.

Description:

The Shelley Bristol Papers (approximately 1950 to 2023) document Bristol's experiences as an AIDS activist, sex worker, and radio show host. The materials include Bristol's personal testimony for the National Association of People with AIDS, her correspondence with the Nevadans Against Prostitution, a newsletter from WORLD (Women Organized to Respond to Life-Threatening Diseases), and notes for Bristol's personal autobiography. Also included are materials related to her blog and radio show, Madam Vanessa: Las Vegas Talk of the Town which Bristol started to share her experiences of working as a sex worker in Las Vegas in the early 1970s. Other materials include blog post drafts, radio scripts, and an archived copy of her blog. The collection also includes some personal photographs of Bristol as a child and her parents, Marilyn and Jerry Bristol.

Description:

The Michael McKensie Pratt Papers (approximately 1963 to 2021) primarily contain souvenir show programs for various cabaret shows performed in Paris, France and Las Vegas, Nevada, including Lido de Paris, Casino de Paris, Bal du Moulin Rouge, and Folies Bergere. Materials also include copies of Pratt's curriculum vita and swing bible used by Pratt when he was the co-company manager for Jubilee!. The swing bible is a reference manual that tracks technical steps, components, and choreography for each musical number and performer. Also included are video recordings of shows Pratt choreographed as well as a recording of Ebony Guys, Dolls & Techs documentary produced by PBS. This collection also includes an archived version of Pratt's personal website.

Description:

Memorial for Queer Rhyolite Papers (2019-2020) contains documentation about the temporary monument installed for the inaugural Bullfrog Biennial at the Goldwell Open Air Museum in Rhyolite, Nevada in 2019. Materials include an information pamphlet about the exhibit as well as a small aluminum-cast monument with an inscribed dedication. Digital files in this collection include photographs of the monument during and after installation, images of Budd's sketchbook, and documents about the monument including exhibit proposals and articles written by Budd. The collection also includes archived versions of Budd's personal website and two online articles written by Budd published on the Nevada Humanities website and Engaging Collections online art journal.

Lift Up Windsor Park archived website

Description:

The Lift Up Windsor Project Collection (approximately 2020-2023) contains digitized copies of North Las Vegas, Nevada City Council meeting minutes, geological and environmental impact statements, and other types of documentation originally published from the 1950s to 2010s that were collected by Sebastian Ross, graduate student at UNLV's Boyd School of Law and an archived version of the Lift up Windsor Park project website. Assemblywoman Dina Neal (now Nevada State Senator) led the project, which included faculty and students from UNLV's film department and law school, to research and advocate for Windsor Park, one of the first all-Black housing communities in North Las Vegas that was developed in the 1960s. The records in this collection represent the research material used for Windsor Park: The Sinking Streets documentary that tells the story of how the neighborhood was developed on top of an aquifer and seismic faults which have damaged homes over the past five decades.
