Subject: Southsea Shakespeare Actors, Shakespeare, William, 1564-1616., Shakespeare, William, 1564-1616 -- Stage history -- United Kingdom -- Hampshire -- Southsea, Traveling theater, Amateur theater, The Southsea Shakespeare Actors have produced almost 200 plays since their formation in 1947. Two thirds of these have been Shakespeare. SSA completed the Shakespeare Canon in the 1960s, and was the first non-professional company in the world to do so. This was recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records. Currently, the group travels to various venues, performing Shakespeare plays as well as other classical works and has developed the Upstage! SSA Youth Company to educate young people in theatre skills.
