Title: American Studies Program, Cornell University

URL: http://amst.arts.cornell.edu/

Collection: Cornell University Archives Web Archive

Description: "The American Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary engagement with what America means in the United States and in a global context. Faculty encourage students to look at the meaning and reality of the evolving United States as a question still in need of answering and as an experiment still in process, not as a dream fully realized. We use multiple perspectives and methodologies and require that students synthesize knowledge in ways that develop the skills needed for rigorous, complex analysis."

Title: Scholars@Cornell

URL: http://blogs.cornell.edu/scholars/

Collection: Cornell University Archives Web Archive

Description: "I am writing to inform you of LEG’s decision regarding Scholars@Cornell. When LEG approved the pilot project for beta release, it requested that a status review be done in 2018. This review is now complete and it was decided that the project will not be continued beyond the end of 2018. The pilot was a success from the technical perspective, and it generated quite a bit of enthusiasm on campus and at international conferences. Still, moving from a beta release to a production service would have required a critical mass of colleges and departments becoming contributing partners to ensure long-term fiscal sustainability. This proved elusive, and consequently the Scholars@Cornell project and CUL’s subscription to Symplectic Element will not be transitioned into an ongoing service. The faculty publication data accumulated in the system will be archived. Department administrators, as they know, will be able to access their own Scholars@Cornell data via the Web through 2019, after which time it will be moved to an offline archive."--taken from website 2023.10.16

URL: http://ebp-projects.isr.umich.edu/NCRN/

Collection: Cornell University Archives Web Archive

Description: "The University of Michigan NCRN node addresses the specific analytic and operational requirements of the Census Bureau and other federal statistical agencies to improve their estimates while reducing costs and respondent burden. The project uses administrative data, and more generally, data generated by households and businesses in the course of their normal activities, to produce economic and demographic measurements that currently rely on surveys. The project develops and evaluates methods to use the vast constellation of data generated by ordinary activity in a modern society while protecting the privacy of individuals and businesses. The project analyzes administrative and transaction records created by businesses, individuals, and governments, data from social media sites, and detailed geospatial data from satellite imagery. The project aims to improve survey measurements of economic and demographic data and potentially supplement or replace surveys with statistics based on administrative, Web-based, and geospatial data."

Description: "Cornell University offers a campus-wide Master of Public Health (MPH) Program to help build public health leaders who are inspired and trained to ensure the health of people, animals, and the world in which we live. Our program is founded on three pillars—Sustainability, Equity, and Engagement—that inform our approach to teaching, research, service, and practice. Our small class sizes and engaged-learning approach give our students uncommon flexibility in developing the skills they need to make an impact in their desired careers. And, by working with community partners, our students turn theory into practice while preparing to become future leaders of the public health workforce."--taken from website 2023.08.28

Description: "With an overall goal of improving the quality of data derived from surveys, the research will be focused on accomplishing three objectives: Evaluate the use of four diagnostic tools for: (a) identifying measurement errors in computer-assisted, interviewer-administered data collection instruments and (b) informing visual redesign of common features of computer-assisted, interviewer-administered data collection instruments. Evaluate the use of adaptive/responsive designs in which a dynamic modeling of collected data is used to modify the questionnaire as the data are being collected. Evaluate the application of calendar- and time diary-based data collection methods to aid in the accuracy of behavioral self-reports by tailoring questions to the needs of individual respondents."

Description: "The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Census Bureau have awarded more than $20 million in interdisciplinary research grants aimed at finding new ways to unlock social, behavioral, and economic data, including data gained every 10 years from the census. Eight research awards have been made by the NSF-Census Research Network, a joint funding opportunity supported by the two federal agencies to establish a set of research nodes that will conduct long-term, interdisciplinary, methodological research and educational activities on issues relevant for the production of data and related statistics. In addition to generating new research methods, advanced practices, and procedures, the nodes will relate basic research findings to the problems of the Federal Statistical System."

Description: "We believe that progress in biomedical engineering will increasingly rely on a quantitative understanding of the human body as an integrated system, and that this vision will guide the development of the discipline. Throughout our research and educational programs we seek relationships between molecular mechanisms and cellular dynamics, which, in turn, determine tissue and organ responses and the behavior of complete physiological systems. Developing quantitative relationships among phenomena that span these different scales is a key to the rational design of useful biomedical devices and therapies."--taken from website 2023.08.21
