Title: Investigative Reporting Workshop

URL: http://investigativereportingworkshop.org/

Collection: American University

Description: The Investigative Reporting Workshop, a project of the School of Communication (SOC) at American University, is a nonprofit, professional newsroom. The Workshop publishes in-depth stories at investigativereportingworkshop.org about government and corporate accountability, ranging widely from the environment and health to national security and the economy. The Workshop pairs experienced professional reporters and editors with graduate students, and co-publishes with mainstream media partners and nonprofit newsrooms. We also have an ongoing relationship with the PBS program FRONTLINE — producer Rick Young and his team are based at the School of Communication as well — and with The Washington Post.

Title: Investigating Power

URL: http://www.investigatingpower.org/

Collection: American University

Description: Investigating Power was created by Charles Lewis, the founding executive editor of the Investigative Reporting Workshop at the American University School of Communication (SOC). This multimedia presentation – blending the very different techniques, sensibilities and ethical values of broadcast journalism, documentary film production and Web publishing – is a work in progress. Lewis, now a tenured professor of journalism at American University, plans to continue interviewing historically significant national journalists, via the ongoing Investigating Power oral and visual history project at the Investigative Reporting Workshop. Investigating Power allows you to examine the life and work of 29 of the most important national journalists since 1950 with career timelines, recorded interviews, still photos, and archival footage.
