Description:

Virginia Tech, with funding from the US National Science Foundation through grant IIS-0916733, is leading an international consortia to build a human and computing network to collect, archive, organize, and provide ready access for scholars, professionals, and the public interested in supporting ongoing recovery of communities that have faced a crisis or tragedy. In scope are school shootings and all other types of man-made or natural disasters. We welcome involvement of those with relevant content or who are interested in developing collections, as well as those seeking or promoting deeper understanding of CTR.

Hurricane Irene was a Atlantic Hurricane that left extensive flood and wind damage along its path through the Caribbean, the United States East Coast and as far north as Atlantic Canada in 2011 between the dates August 21st - August 26th, 2011. Irene caused widespread destruction and atleast 54 deaths, the monetary losses to the Caribbean could be as high as US $3.1 billion and around 7 billion dollars in United States (early damage estimates).

Nevada air race crash (September 16, 2011)

The crash of a World War II-era plane during a Reno air race where the death toll has been rose to nine people Saturday as investigators combed through wreckage and scoured amateur video clips to determine why the aircraft suddenly spiraled out of control and plummeted to the ground near hundreds of spectators. Close to 60 were injured in the incident, which occurred Friday.

At 6.8 on the Richter scale, September 18th 2011 evening's quake was the worst earthquake in 20 years for the northeast. As many as 20 after-shocks have been experienced in Sikkim since Sunday. The death toll of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Sikkim on Sunday evening has reached 62. Sikkim is the worst hit with 38 casualties, 10 deaths have been confirmed in Bihar and West Bengal and 14 in Nepal and Tibet.
