The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) assures the security of the retirement, health and other workplace related benefits of America's workers and their families. EBSA is responsible for administering and enforcing the fiduciary, reporting and disclosure provisions of Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). Legislation has amended ERISA and increased the responsibilities of EBSA including the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). EBSA is committed to educating and assisting workers, retirees and their families covered by private retirement and health benefit plans as well as plan sponsors and members of the employee benefits community.
