Anne Frank Memorial

Archived since: Oct, 2021

Description:

Dedicated to the public in 2002, the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial was built by the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights as an educational park designed to actively engage visitors to think, to talk with one another, and to respond to the human rights issues we face in our community, our country and our world. Both the triumphs and tragedies of the human story are on display, but in every quote and every idea, we see the profound power of a single voice or bold action to overcome great odds and alter the course of history. The Memorial includes a life-sized bronze statue of Anne Frank as she peers out an open window. The Memorial is comprised of several major elements: Attic Amphitheater, Memorial Quotes Walls, Water Feature, Rose Beal Legacy Garden and Marilyn Shuler Classroom for Human Rights. Human rights quotes are incorporated within these elements and featured throughout the Memorial. The Memorial is the only Anne Frank Memorial in the United States and one of the few places in the world where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is on permanent, public display in its entirety.

Badlands Zine

Archived since: Dec, 2023

Description:

A zine is a small circulation publication of rare interest. The Inland West has for too long been viewed as culturally barren, unweird, flat, and bad. A desolate wasteland of conservatism and repression. This publication is an effort to push back at the stuffy, boring narratives that dominate the West and provide a platform for the voices often swept under the rug by the more sensible sensibilities. Whether it’s poetry, fiction, nonfiction, editorials, journalism, songs, art, photography, design - it all has a place here.

Wassmuth Center for Human Rights

Archived since: Dec, 2022

A living, vibrant interactive classroom for Idaho’s school children, it inspires people of all ages to contemplate the moral implications of their actions and the scope of their civic responsibilities. Our mission is to “promote respect for human dignity and diversity through education and to foster individual responsibility to work for peace and justice.” As an education center, our goal is to empower others to be upstanders in the classroom, community and country. The Center’s work includes programming and resources onsite in the Memorial, offsite in classrooms and communities throughout Idaho, and online reaching national and international audiences.
