Trois bibliothèques européennes face à Google Web Archive

Archived since: Nov, 2016

Description:

This collection is related to the book Three European libraries facing Google: the inception of the digital library (1990-2010) (available in French). The Bibliothèque nationale de France, the British Library, and the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek made their digital revolution between 1990 and 2010. During this period they were also faced with the challenges set by Google and its Google Books project. These national libraries, which were the custodians of physical artefacts, have come to produce and preserve our digital heritage. How did this evolution occur? What were the processes through which digital libraries were set up? How were these digital libraries impacted by the emergence of private competitors in the dissemination of cultural heritage and knowledge? The book is based on interviews with practitioners involved in the creation of digital libraries and on the most recent theoretical approaches in sociology of innovation and sociology of organizations.
