NYC Public School 56 Queens - The Harry Eichler School is in Richmond Hill, a neighborhood in NYC in the borough of Queens. Ours is an international community and we have over 30 languages spoken by the students who attend our school. We consider our diversity our wealth.

Our students come from Guyana, Pakistan, India, many countries of Latin America and the Caribbean making our population a reflection of a global mosaic.

Our building has reached its centennial but the internal makeovers show that we have gone 21st century high tech with videoconferencing, wireless access, Smartboards in all classrooms, and laptops and a computer lab. We love those old high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows of our 1907 architecture.

Our participation in the archiving project is in its second year as we troll the web during the school day to include our favorite sites to preserve for posterity. We work at home as well and bring in our "faves" with our descriptions which are then entered by our "librarian" team. The 25 members of the class are all participating in contributing sites and criteria and selection has been determined exclusively by the students. They seem to be quite organized and know what they like, and that is just fine with the teacher whose role is to assist with the technical end if and when questions arise.
