Ames Middle School
Ames Middle School 8th grade Extended Learning Program students meet weekly during homeroom to work on the Archive-It/Library of Congress Project. Students brainstormed and debated possible collection topics before choosing Commerce, Entertainment, and News and Information as most representative of their internet use. Students regularly share the seeds they have archived at the weekly meetings, expanding everyone’s knowledge of the Internet. Participants also have the opportunity to talk with past archivists via Skype. Our conference calls with last years group provides an opportunity to pose questions and share information. The 8th graders will tour the Special Collections Department at the Iowa State Library to learn more about primary sources and archiving as well.
Ames Middle School is located in Ames, Iowa, home to Iowa State University. We are a diverse community and our classrooms mirror the rich culture of our university town.
