James Moran Middle School

James Moran Middle School is located in Wallingford, CT half-way between New York and Boston. We have 900 students in grades 6-8. Our Library of Congress Archive group was made up of 15 volunteers who met to select websites for inclusion into the Archive. We spent time simulating in school our natural web surfing activities that they would have followed at home. Just like at home, what naturally happened was that the "crowd" influenced what sites we chose and the power of social networking's influence on our net surfing behavior became very obvious. We tried to start off each day by casually surfing the web and take note of what sites we were naturally drawn towards and which ones we were influenced to visit based on the word of others. We also took note of sites that we might not visit everyday, but that were important sources of information that we might use every so often such as church sites, and movie theater home pages. It is becoming increasingly evident that while time spent on the "web" might be increasing. the number of sites visiting is decreasing. After choosing the websites, we found that almost every site could fit into one of three categories: Entertainment, sports, and "supplies". We think it is an honor to be able to contribute to the archive, and in our own little way help to "write" history.

Team Fortress was designed and written by Robin Walker, John Cook and Ian Caughley in 1996. The mod's gameplay has caught on with a large following of fans, which has spurred many developers to create similar gamemodes on other engines. In August 1999, after the development team was hired by Valve, Team Fortress was ported to Valve's GoldSrc engine in the form of Team Fortress Classic. An official sequel developed by Valve Corporation was hinted at for many years, and was finally released in October 2007 as Team Fortress 2." from wikipedia

"Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things. It can also be about adventuring with friends or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. It’s pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether, which is more scary than pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds more like your cup of tea."

"A basketball is a spherical inflated ball used in the game of basketball. Basketballs typically range in size from very small promotional items only a few inches in diameter to extra large balls nearly a foot in diameter used in training exercises to increase the skill of players. The standard size of a basketball in the NBA is 29.5 to 29.875 inches (75 to 75.88 cm) in circumference. Nearly all basketballs have an inflatable inner rubber bladder, generally wrapped in layers of fiber and then covered with a tacky surface made either from leather (traditional), rubber, or a synthetic composite. As in most inflatable balls, there is a small opening that allows the pressure to be increased or decreased. The surface of the ball is nearly always divided by "ribs" that are recessed below the surface of the ball in a variety of configurations and are generally a contrasting color. An orange surface with black ribs and a possible logo is the traditional color scheme of basketballs but they are sold in various colors." from wikipedia
