Paul VI Catholic High School

Paul VI Catholic High School, located just outside of Washington D.C in Fairfax, Virginia, is one of four secondary schools in the highly regarded Catholic Diocese of Arlington’s school system. Paul VI is a college-preparatory high school of around 1,000 students. Paul VI sends its young men and women to some of the finest colleges and universities in the country while simultaneously pioneering a full immersion, award-winning scholastic program for students with special needs. Paul VI seeks to inspire and challenge each student in a small classroom setting.

This is the second year for Paul VI in the K12 Web Archiving Program. We've created the Webcrawlers Club to be part of this program. The club is student-run, with the school librarian serving as the advisor. The club meets every Tuesday, with members contributing new websites to be considered for inclusion into the program. We have club officers, including a Webmaster, and each of our three collections has a lead student who is in charge of content. Chosen sites are an eclectic mix recommended by Paul VI's students to represent the school. This year the AP Human Geography class also participated in the selection of websites. Our club members and students are proud to be the connection between the Paul VI community and the students of the future.

We decided to archive sites with historical information because some of our club members are interested in what we know about the past and the different ways of learning and studying past events. In our high school, we are required to take at least four years of history starting from pre-history up until the present day. In addition, many of our students take Advanced Placement courses in European and American History. We really liked the idea that our choices in websites will give future students of history insight into our interests and the information available to us in 2012.
