The chapter is named after Oceanus Hopkins, son of Stephen Hopkins and his second wife, Elizabeth (Fisher) Hopkins, passengers on the Mayflower. Their child, Oceanus, was born over the Atlantic Ocean, between mid-September and mid-November 1620
