British Slave Trade Legacies

Collected by: British Slave Trade Legacies

Archived since: Oct, 2007

Description:

The Abolition of the Slave Trade Act passed in 1807 made it illegal for Britain to participate in kidnapping, capturing, and transporting African people from their homeland. The slave trade reached all segments of 18th and 19th century society, a modern day comparison to it would be the IT or the oil industry.

The sites you see archived here attempt to capture what was online from June 2007 to June 2008. Other 2007 ephemera not in digital format form part of a related collection deposited at the newly established Black Cultural Archives in London.
