Description: College Thesis by Dayna Day written in May, 2008, " This study explores feminine mythic archetypes in films from each phase and demonstrates that first, the era of the woman’s film presents traditional archetypes such as the Mother and the Wife; second, representation becomes more progressive in the new woman’s film of the 1970s through the influence of the women’s movement; third, representations regressed in the chick flick with the onset of post feminism in the late 1980s; and finally, through the rhetorical function of myth, the films serve a persuasive and explanatory function for audiences."

Title: 10 Reasons I Don't Watch Chick Flicks Anymore

URL: https://www.girldefined.com/10-reasons-watch-chick-flicks-anymore

Description: This is a critical blog on the topic of chick flicks that explains why its author stopped watching typical romanantic comedy films. The author of this blog briefly outlines the dangers that chick flicks can have on our society by disccussing research and general analysises that support her claim. One analysis that the author makes in this blog is that girls typically have a desire to experience a sweet or love related stories, a point she uses to make the allusion of chick flicks wrongfully taking advantage of this fact. The author of this blog then goes on to list ten specific reasons for her stance against this genre of film and eventually elaborates on some of these points. One unique qaulity about this blog is that it was it is written in the view of a person who embodies judeo-christian values, a trait that fuels the author's critisisms of the many cliches that chick flicks usually praise and embody, such as rebelling against one's parents or the practicing of promiscuity. These points concerning our society's morality are rarely made in other pieces that focus on this subject, as many of the ones I examined actually flawed these films as not positively depicting these inarguably consequnetial actions enough. The author of this blog does a great job of making this her arguement's strong point, as she suggests that the immoral actions that are often conducted by the characters in the these films are far more damaging to easily influenced auidences than false images of prince charmings and love at first sightings are.
