South Louisiana Flood - 2016

Collected by: Old Dominion University

Archived since: Aug, 2016

Description:

In August 2016, prolonged rainfall in southern Louisiana resulted in catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of houses and businesses. About 11,000 square miles of Louisiana saw rainfall of at least 15 inches over 48 hours. The no-name storm dumped three times as much rain on Louisiana as Hurricane Katrina, the equivalent of 7.1 trillion gallons of water. With an estimated 110,000 homes damaged in the flooding, the event was characterized as the worst US natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
