Description: Community Coalition is a community-driven organization founded in 1989 by a group of activists in Los Angeles, convened by Congressmember Karen Bass, and committed to involving South L.A. residents in creating solutions to the crack-cocaine epidemic haunting their community at that time. Community Coalition works to help transform the social and economic conditions in South L.A. that foster addiction, crime, violence and poverty by building a community institution that involves thousands in creating, influencing, and changing public policy. The organization remains committed to elevating the voices of its members, shifting power to the community, and tackling the root causes of poverty, crime, and violence in South L.A.
