Title: Office of Minority Student Affairs

URL: http://www.omsa.illinois.edu/

Description: The Office of Minority Student Affairs exists as a result of campus leadership, local community support and the activism of African-American law students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the late 1960s. After the success of the Project 500 initiative in 1968 — which was created to increase campus enrollment by 500 minority students — Latina/o, Caucasian, Asian-American and low-income and first-generation students of all backgrounds also began matriculating through the project. With the increasing numbers came the need for a permanent campus program to increase retention and graduation rates of a diverse student population and provide services for the enrichment and development of underrepresented students at the University. The 1960s leaders' vision of a diverse student population and persistence in seeing that they are supported resulted in what is now known as the Office of Minority Student Affairs, or OMSA.

Title: Assembly Hall

URL: http://www.uofiassemblyhall.com/

Description: The Assembly Hall opened on March 2, 1963 and continues to attract attention for its design and construction. Four hundred feet across, it at one time was one of only two-edge supported domes in the world. The roof is supported by 614 miles of one-quarter inch steel wire wrapped at the base of the dome under intensive pressure. The architect was Max Abramovitz, a distinguished University of Illinois alumnus. His firm also designed the United Nations Buildings, much of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the University of Illinois' own Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. In seating capacity, Assembly Hall ranks among the great arenas of major cities. It has nearly 16,000 permanent seats, but when portable chairs are placed on the floor for an in-the-round performance there is potential of up to 17,200 depending on the size of the stage. The largest Illinois arena outside of The United Center in Chicago, Assembly Hall continues to present the hottest and most exciting performers and events in the world!

Title: Sustainable Student Farm

URL: https://ssf.cropsciences.illinois.edu/

Description: Welcome to the Sustainable Student Farm at The University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! The farm serves as a production farm to supply our residence halls with locally grown, low-input sustainable food. In addition, the farm acts as a living laboratory to connect students, community members, and the state at large with regional, small-scale food systems. We plan to broaden our focus to include the research, education, and outreach missions of the university. Currently, the farm operates between 45-48 weeks per year, occupying 6 acres for outdoor field production and nearly 10,000 square feet of year round high tunnel production. In addition to selling the majority of our produce to the residence halls, we also market our produce directly to consumers on the quad. This is on Anniversary Plaza (just south of the Illini Union) from May-November, Thursdays, 11am-5pm. Every attempt is made to integrate educational aspects into all activities on the farm. The Sustainable Student Farm was created through a grant from the Student Sustainability Committee and is made possible by the continued support of the University of Illinois Dining Services, the Department of Crop Sciences, and the Student Sustainability Committee.
