Title: Laboratory of Cell Signaling in Engineered Tissues (University of Michigan) Web Archives

URL: http://www.csetlab.org/

Description: "The Laboratory of Cell Signaling in Engineered Tissues (CSET) conducts both fundamental and applied research in the broad areas of cell and tissue engineering. Our fundamental biological research addresses how the mechano-chemical properties of the extracellular matrix (ECM) influence both normal and pathologic tissue morphogenesis, with a particular emphasis on identifying the signal transduction mechanisms that drive these processes in 3-D. Our engineering efforts then seek to leverage this fundamental knowledge to inspire the design of "instructive materials" for applications in regenerative medicine and as model systems in which to study disease." The website includes information on the lab, descriptions of research activities, a personnel directory, and a bibliography of related publications.

Title: Therapeutic Ultrasound Group (University of Michigan) Web Archives

URL: http://www.histotripsy.umich.edu/

Description: Histotripsy refers to Non-invasive Ultrasonic Tissue Fractionation for Treatment of Benign Disease and Cancer. Ultrasound has been widely known for diagnostic imaging. The most recent studies suggest that it also has potential to be developed as a non-invasive therapy tool. Ultrasound has the ability to focus energy deep within the human body without damaging the overlying tissue. If the energy is sufficient, significant bioeffects (e.g. tissue necrosis and tissue fractionation) can be achieved. This ability of ultrasound is suited perfectly for many types of non-invasive therapy. This website explains about histotripsy and the projects surrounding it.
