The original Kresge Hearing building opened its doors in 1963. The Institute moved from its old building to new quarters in the Medical Sciences complex in 2008 and now houses a staff of approximately 100, divided between the laboratories of 14 faculty and primary research scientists, administration and technical cores. The Patient Safety Enhancement Program has three objectives: to conduct, synthesize, and disseminate research aimed at reducing hospital-associated patient complications; to systematically evaluate errors in processes of care that undermine patient safety; and to operationalize these research findings by systematizing methods to improve the safety of hospitalized patients.
