Title: Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging | Governor’s Conference

URL: http://vgcoa.com/

Description: Virginia’s population is becoming older and more diverse. Today, there are nearly 1.5 million adults in the Commonwealth over age 60, and this population will expand to more than two million by 2030 when the entire baby-boom generation will be between 66 and 84 years old. Virginia’s aging population will live longer due to advances in healthcare, and older Virginians with chronic conditions may need more assistance for longer periods of time. This year’s program will also add a new focus area to engage community advocates from across the Commonwealth. The two-day 2017 conference will include breakout sessions focused on our four topic areas and keynote speakers that will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. Moreover, the conference will yield recommendations for current and future policy makers on measures to be taken to make Virginia the most age-friendly state in the Union. After a successful 2016 Virginia Governor’s Conference on Aging in Richmond, the demand for a larger, more robust Conference on Aging was clear and that the conference location needed to be shifted so that aging advocates in other parts of the state could participate more fully. Building on the 2016 theme Designing our Future, the 2017 conference theme Design. Engage. Implement. will aim to take an active role in making Virginia a better place to live for our aging population.

Title: eHHR, eHHR: Innovating Human Services in Virginia.

URL: https://ehhr.virginia.gov/

Description: Current federal initiatives present significant funding opportunities to improve the quality and value of American healthcare. Virginia is leveraging federal funding and technology solutions to achieve the following outcomes for the Commonwealth: Build on current health reform efforts; Modernize information technology infrastructure as an enabler for future business transformation; Provide a technical environment where standards-based interoperability is possible between new and legacy systems; Provide web-based self-directed service options for human services; Reduce overall long-term technology costs for federal and Virginia programs; and Provide an enterprise technology environment that is accessible on a pay-for-use basis by federal, State, and local governments as well as non-government organizations, community-based services, and commercial interests as allowed by policy. Modernizing Virginia’s technical foundations will enable future transformation of Virginia’s provision of governmental services. The eHHR Program is designed to promote and manage Health Information Technology (HIT) and enterprise projects in close coordination with federal and Virginia direction in ways that collectively improve healthcare and human services to Virginians by providing access to the right services for the right people at the right time and for the right cost. The Commonwealth views the eHHR Program as a way to not only avoid cost increases but also to increase the value of our services through increased quality and decreased waste.

Title: Virginia Grants

URL: https://grants.virginia.gov/

Description: In a communication to state agencies, Governor McAuliffe urged state agencies to utilize this website when applying for grants in order to foster collaboration amongst agencies. He also directed agencies to publish grants they offer on the Virginia Grants site so that Virginians can browse and apply for state grants more easily. “The new Virginia Grants website will help my administration serve taxpayers better by increasing transparency and accountability and offering residents a single hub for grant funding opportunities that may help them grow their businesses, improve their communities or make life better for their families,” said Governor McAuliffe. “Using technology to improve government customer service and seize more opportunities to fund important priorities is a great step forward in our efforts to build a new Virginia economy.” Today, Governor McAuliffe launched the first ever Virginia Grants website, a new public resource for anyone interested in state, federal, and private funding opportunities. The website will serve as a hub for taxpayers to search for grant opportunities, and have a better idea of how federal tax dollars are being spent, and which grants present opportunities for state and local governments as well as private businesses and organizations.
