Description: The summit was held on 30 August 2016 at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. The purpose of Governor McAuliffe’s African American Business Summit is to provide African American stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and business leaders with the opportunity to engage the administration and hear from experts on how to create, maintain, and grow businesses. The mission of Governor McAuliffe’s African American Business Summit is to connect African American entrepreneurs and business leaders with state resources and services to help build and grow businesses and support the new Virginia economy. Additionally, the summit will provide an opportunity for the McAuliffe Administration to gain a deeper understanding of issues impacting African American businesses.

Description: PROGRAM GOALS: Incentivize development of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and alternative fueling projects Reduce energy consumption and emissions while promoting energy efficiency Create jobs and stimulate economic development Enhance business competitiveness and quality of life throughout Virginia The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) has created the VirginiaSAVES Green Community Program (the “Program”) to provide subsidized financing to private commercial and industrial, non-profit institutional and local government borrowers for energy efficiency, renewable energy, alternative fueling, and other qualified conservation purposes across the Commonwealth. Using the Commonwealth’s allocations of Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds (“QECBs”) issued on a conduit basis by the Virginia Small Business Finance Authority for private borrowers and the Virginia Resource Authority for public borrowers, the Program works with third-party funding sources to provide financing for the Projects. The Program is administered by CleanSource Capital, LLC.

Description: Virginia Velocity Business Plan Competition What does Virginia have to offer an entrepreneur like you? This competition is different. This competition is not for start ups or ideas. Virginia Velocity is for the next stage; for entrepreneurs looking for a boost to their companies and a new level of growth. Virginia Velocity will provide $850,000 in prizes for winners, and at least four winners will be chosen. The competition is open to all companies in the bioscience and energy sectors, including those based outside of Virginia. There are a large number of judges with specific industry expertise in energy and bioscience. Each judge will be pre-qualified to ensure they have industry knowledge and can bring their expertise to this competition. Winning companies must be willing to locate in Virginia for two years. Description: The Secretariat also provides leadership of the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund (AFID), which is administered by VDACS, as well as the Governor’s agricultural export initiative, which seeks to increase exports of Virginia’s agricultural and forest product exports into the global marketplace and make the Commonwealth the East Coast capital of agricultural exports. The Secretariat oversees and provides policy guidance to three agencies – the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF), and the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC). The Secretariat of Agriculture and Forestry is the voice of two of Virginia’s largest industries. According to a 2013 economic impact study conducted by Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, agriculture and forestry have a combined economic impact of $70 billion annually. Agriculture generates more than $52 billion per annum, while forestry induces over $17 billion. The industries also provide more than 400,000 jobs in the Commonwealth.
