Description: The Help Eliminate Auto Theft program educates citizens about theft of vehicles and their parts, a crime that costs Virginians millions of dollars each year. HEAT also trains and supports local law enforcement officers in efforts to prevent auto theft. The HEAT program is a cooperative effort of the Virginia Department of State Police, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and local law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth. The HEAT program was established in 1992 to educate citizens and law enforcement about theft of vehicles and vehicle parts. HEAT supports local and state law enforcement through various auto theft prevention efforts.
