Description: The Gesellschaft für Regionalforschung (GfR)[Regional Science Association]is the German-speaking section of the Regional Science Association. The German-language section was formed in 1963 in Heidelberg, with the aim to promote across national boundaries research on regional problems. In addition to the Federal Republic, the members come mainly from Austria and Switzerland. While the focus in the early days of GfR was in regional economic issues, the research has become much broader through the interdisciplinary orientation of the members. Members include geographers, local scientists, economists, political scientists, sociologists, urban designers, planners, environmental scientists, transport and communication scientists, etc.
