Description: Wickedonna is a unique digital archive of incidents of social unrest in China from 2013 until 2016. Compiled by award-winning underground journalists Lu Yuyu and Li Tingyu, it is based on painstaking and widespread scraping of social media sources. A real-time approach was necessary to combat rapid censorship in China, which aims to eliminate mentions of social unrest from the internet. As a result, this archive provides invaluable insight into social dynamics that have since been eliminated from the internet in China. It includes information on tens of thousands of protest incidents by workers, peasants, small business owners, and other citizens. Unfortunately, the Wickedonna project ended in 2016 when Lu and Li were imprisoned for documenting these protests.
