Description: The General Assembly created the Crime Victim's Ombudsman in 1994 (Act 433). The mission of the Office of the Crime Victim Ombudsman (CVO) is to ensure that victims of crime are served justly, equitably and fairly by the South Carolina Criminal Justice System and its victim service organizations. It was administered by the Office of the Governor and transferred to the Department of Administration in 2015 by the South Carolina Restructuring Act of 2014 (Act 121). The General Assembly transferred the State Office of Victim Assistance (SOVA) and the Office of the Crime Victims' Ombudsman to the Office of the Attorney General's South Carolina Crime Victim Services Division on July 1, 2017 (Act 96). This website is no longer captured using the Archive-It service, but the records are still available through web crawls of the Attorney General’s website.

It was created to establish a program to compensate victims of crime and certain other persons who have suffered as a result of crime. It was administered by the Office of the Governor and transferred to the Dept. of Administration in 2015 by the South Carolina Restructuring Act of 2014 (Act 121). The General Assembly transferred the State Office of Victim Assistance (SOVA) and the Office of the Crime Victims' Ombudsman to the Office of the Attorney General's South Carolina Crime Victim Services Division on July 1, 2017 (Act 96). These records may contain minutes, photographs and video of significant events, statistics, agency policies, and other significant and related records.
