Description: In 1951 at the age of 16, Barbara Johns organized a strike against segregation at her school in Virginia. The event is considered by many to be the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. Governor McDonnell attended the unveiling of Louis Briel's portrait of Barbara Johns at the Virginia State Capitol.
