Description: While 2020 is a year many were happy to see be over, there were, undoubtedly, bright spots that are worth celebrating. This Impact Report features four success stories, including one of our outreach employees, a partner in our incredibly successful Streets to Homes program, and a resident whose knitting is giving back to her community. While these four stories demonstrate the impact of the Pacifica community, there are so many more that are equally worth celebrating.

Description: Our organizations hear regularly from families who struggle with accessing funding and services for programs offered through the Ministry of Children and Family Development as well as other programs. This survey was put together in response to an increase in advocacy calls to all of our organizations with regard to Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) funding. The intent of the survey was to find out how families are coping with the extra pressures caused by COVID-19, and to hear about their experiences accessing emergency pandemic funding and/or services for their child or youth with disabilities through MCFD’s CYSN program.

Description: We started off as a network of people who came together in mid-March to address the crisis of COVID-19 and the street community. This crisis is one that requires we all pull together to do what needs to be done. When COVID started, none of the organizations on the ground doing harm reduction work had the time or resources to coordinate community volunteer efforts. Rather than wait for someone else to figure out how to do this, we tried to create infrastructure to match community volunteers with needed tasks, in conditions where things were changing rapidly/unpredictably and priorities for work needed to abruptly shift.

Description: This briefing provides insights regarding what it’s like to be a clinically vulnerable person during the COVID-19 pandemic in BC. When the institutions we created to protect public health decide that the rampant spread of an infectious disease is preferable to regulating vaccinations, masks, the purification of indoor air, increasing the capacity of our healthcare system, or burdening private businesses with temporary inconvenience, who pays the price?

Description: In February 2021, the City of Victoria initiated this report to identify barriers to ending homelessness and recommendations to resolve those barriers. The process of putting this report together engaged people experiencing homelessness, many as they transitioned from homelessness to supportive housing, and with consent, documented those experiences and their reflections. They are presented as first-person accounts to enable the reader to look at the homeless system through the eyes of the user.
