Description: Perhaps my question yesterday was not straightforward enough. Today I got straight to the point: does the Minister of Health Adrian Dix acknowledge that COVID-19 is airborne? No answer - just spin. It is astonishing that what should be a simple question to answer leads to a contortionist act from our government. The WHO, Canada Health, and the international scientific community all agree that COVID-19 is airborne. It is crucial for this gov’t to recognize that COVID-19 is airborne because that creates a guiding point for decision making and measuring success. Ensuring every British Columbian has access to N95s becomes a priority. Acknowledging COVID-19 airborne means there is no excuse to not invest in better ventilation and HEPA filters in schools and healthcare settings. It sends a direct message to all health authorities to implement the necessary policies to combat airborne transmission. The COVID-19 pandemic is not over. Government needs to focus on protections for people. Clear information, reliable data, N95s, rapid tests, ventilation, filtration of indoor air.

Description: Deputy Minister of Health Stephen Brown and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry delivered a pandemic update to BC Green Party staff on the same day Ernst and Young completed a $197,000 review of long term care. But the party’s leader said officials made no mention of the Oct. 22 report, which was kept secret until this week — three months after the NDP won the Oct. 24 snap election.

Description: Sonia Furstenau on Twitter: "Today I asked Premier @jjhorgan what, in a pandemic, his government owes to the people and those who live with them who are medically vulnerable or immunocompromised? The Minister of Health answered instead. 1/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC #COVID19 / I ask this because @humanrights4bc sent a letter to the PHO arguing that the mask mandate should remain. The letter states, “Lifting the mask mandate will do disproportionate harm to those who are already marginalized”. 2/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC https://bchumanrights.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022.03.16-Letter-to-Bonnie-Henry-End-of-Mask-Mandate.pdf / . @jjhorgan has tasked his gov't with tackling systemic discrimination – it is in the mandate letter of the Minister of Health. And yet, our Human Rights Commissioner said that the sudden removal of the mask mandate will have profound effects on vulnerable people in BC. 3/ #bpcoli / “[…] the mask mandate is not about eliminating risk; it is about sharing the risk burden across society rather than transferring it to a marginalized or medically vulnerable minority.” 4/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC / . @humanrights4BC is saying that the decision from this government to remove the mask mandate is harming the most vulnerable in our province. I asked the Premier for his response to the Human Rights Commissioner? There wasn't any. 5/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC / . @AdrianDix stood both times and waived their responsibility to British Columbians by putting it all on Dr. Henry. He went on to oppose the view of the Human Rights Commissioner that the decisions from this government are harming vulnerable people in BC. 6/6 #bcpoli #COVID19BC"

Description: Sonia Furstenau on Twitter: "This is exhausting. Dr. Henry and the Minister of Health have consistently downplayed the risk of transmission of COVID in schools, and likelihood of children being infected. 1/ #bcpoli / This study - authored by Dr. Henry herself - shows that 70-80% of kids have been infected in the Lower Mainland, the most of any age group. 2/ #bcpoli / Schools have been painted as safe, but this study contradicts that message. Our classrooms aren't prepared because @bcndp have not been realistic about the state of COVID. 3/ #bcpoli / The public have been told a different story for two years. The public are owed a full, honest explanation of this discrepancy. 4/4 #bcpoli"

Description: Sonia Furstenau on Twitter: "Today I asked @AdrianDix to explain how we can trust his or the PHO’s word after this @CapitalDailyVic & @bbybeacon story. BCers have been misled about #COVID19 transmissions in schools. There needs to be accountability. 1/ #bcpoli #bced #COVID19BC / Before a press conference in 2020, Dr Henry wrote to staff “We need to be able to give some data that supports what we keep saying - transmission in schools is low,” 2/ #bcpoli #bced #COVID19BC / The PHO and this government were trying to find data to support the narrative that Covid was not spreading among children in schools. At the same time as telling teachers and parents that the reality they were experiencing was false. 3/ #bcpoli #bced #COVID19BC / Even more damning is the study co-authored by Dr Henry from that same time period found that students were responsible for close to half of all COVID transmission in communities. 4/ #bcpoli #COVID19BC / This study, co-authored by the PHO found that COVID spread among kids was 92 times higher than what this government was reporting. 5/ #bcpoli #bced #COVID19BC / . @AdrianDix responded by saying that they’ve done a fantastic job and that the story is not worthy of a question. Accountability to the public is not something the @bcndp values. 6/6 #bcpoli #bced #COVID19BC"
