Central Asian Web Archive

Collected by: Center for Research Libraries

Archived since: Jan, 2020

Description:

The Central Asian Web Archive (formerly Central Asian Web Archiving) is the result of institutional collaboration between the Center for Research Libraries, based in Chicago, Illinois, and the Specialized Information Service for Central Asia, based at the State and University Library Göttingen in Germany. The Central Asian Web Archive focuses on websites from Xinjiang, China, written in the autochthonous languages of the region, as well as websites created by Uigurs in exile. Websites in Kazakh, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Mongolian, and other languages will be added as resources allow. As a whole, the Central Asian Web Archive is focused on websites related to language, literature, social activities, religion, culture, and the history of the indigenous peoples of Central Asia and Siberia. In the case of Xinjiang, websites on law, the economy, medicine, and those that feature the Uyghur language have been included. As some languages in Central Asia and Siberia are endangered, the Central Asian Web Archive includes all aspects of life to help preserve many aspects of language use. A more detailed description of the project is available on the homepage of the Specialized Information Service: https://fid-cassib.de/en/webarchive-central-asia/.
