Description: Plant It Forward (PIF) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower refugees to develop sustainable farming businesses that produce fresh, healthy food for our community. The organization envisions thriving farmers, enriching Houston’s vibrant culture. The farmers are independent contractors which gives them autonomy over their schedules and flexibility in how they wish to sell their produce, and PIF strives to ensure that its farmers can become financially independent through their work. Additionally, PIF facilitates a weekly Farm Share subscription program and coordinates sales to restaurants and distributors, plus our farmers sell directly to customers from farm stands and at farmers markets. The website for the organization provides information about the urban farming intiative, including biographies of the farmers and ways in which the public can support the program in buying produce at farm stands, farmers markets, subscriptions, and at restaurants.
